Description

TQ 2981 SE CITY OF WESTMINSTER SOHO SQUARE, W1 58/14 23.11.78 No. 3 (Including No. 7 Dean Street) GV II Commercial premises. 1903 by R.J. Worley. Fine quality red brick and painted stone dressings with some tile facings. Slate roof. Highly original and demonstrative Free Style treatment of a narrow facade with rather Townsend inspired decorative details. 5 storeys and tile faced gabled attic. Single bay. Ground floor has altered shop front retaining mullioned-transomed display window but altered glazing and doorway to left. Large 5-light bow window through 1st and 2nd floors with mullioned-transomed small pane casement lights flanked by projecting quoin-piers. 4- light casements to 3rd and 4th floors (upper ones with altered glazing) deeply set back between angled piers. Concave balcony between the piers in front of attic. 4 large dentilled cornices across front. Piers below 2nd floor course have panels with stylised trees in relief and similar trees in apron of 2nd floor bow; angled piers of top 2 floors stone banded. The rear elevation to Dean Street is plain and of brick but with unusually large camber arched casement windows.
