Description

Number 27 is a terraced house built around 1760-1770, with significant changes made in the mid-19th century, including new windows within the existing openings and a rear extension. The house features brown stock brick with a stuccoed ground floor, and at the time of the survey, the roof, originally slate, was undergoing renovation.

The exterior has four storeys and is two windows wide. The front elevation displays mid-19th century sash windows with vertical glazing bars, set within original openings that feature red brick flat arches. The stone coping adds to the detailing. The ground floor includes a door case on the right side, which has a semicircular fanlight above a four-panelled door, along with a 20th-century plate glass shopfront. The rear elevation retains an original six-pane sash window on the top floor, while the other windows are mainly from the 19th century.

Inside, the house retains a wooden dogleg staircase with turned balusters, a column newel, and scrolled tread ends. The rear ground floor room features an 18th-century wooden fireplace. The first floor boasts a "Gothick" cornice, fine plasterwork ceiling, and a fireplace with a cast-iron fire grate in the rear room. On the second floor, there is a large wooden fireplace in the front room and a corner fireplace in the rear room.

Additionally, the property has attached cast-iron spear railings at the front.
