Description

Nos. 1, 2, and 3 Percy Street are three terraced houses with later shops, built between 1764 and 1770 by W. Franks and W. Reeves. The buildings are three storeys high, with attics and basements, and No. 1 has a later 19th-century fourth storey. Each house features three windows.

No. 1 is constructed of reddened brick and has a slated mansard roof with large dormers, including a central dormer with a segmental head and a tripartite window. The ground floor has a later 19th-century restaurant frontage with stucco pilasters that support an entablature, flanked by consoles with lion masks. The windows have gauged brick flat arches and are fitted with recessed two-pane sashes. A continuous sill band runs along the third floor, topped by a parapet. The interior has not been inspected.

No. 2 is made of multi-coloured stock brick with a rusticated stucco ground floor. It has a slate mansard roof with dormers and stone bands and cornice on the first floor. A 20th-century plate glass shop window is present. The entrance features a round arch with panelled jambs that have lion-mask stops, a cornice head, and a panelled door. The windows have gauged brick flat arches and recessed sashes, and the building is topped by a parapet. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to retain a hall with a dentil cornice, an open tread stair with foliated wrought-iron balusters, and a wreathed wooden handrail.

No. 3 is similar to No. 1, built of reddened brick with a slated mansard roof and dormer. The ground floor is rusticated stucco, while the first floor features stone bands and a cornice. A 20th-century bowed shop window is present. The entrance has a round arch with pilaster-jambs that support a cornice head, along with a fanlight and panelled door. The windows have gauged brick flat arches and recessed sashes, and the building also has a parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
