Description

No. 50 Greek Street is a terrace house built around 1736. It features stained brick with a stuccoed ground floor and a slate roof. The building has three storeys, a basement, and a dormered mansard, and is three windows wide, though it is not as spacious as the adjacent No. 48. The entrance is to the left and has a mid-20th century door set back in the original panelled reveal, framed by a doorcase with fluted Doric pilasters and an entablature that includes a triglyph frieze, although the cornice is missing. The upper floors have recessed metal casements with flat gauged arches, except for the central first-floor window, which features a semicircular head with stone imposts and a key block. There is a plat band above the ground floor and a rendered, likely brick, cornice below the parapet with coping. Flanking the steps leading up to the door is a section of original area railings with large urn finials.

Inside, the closet wing and rooms on the ground and first floors are lined with boldly moulded panelling and dentil box cornices. Doric columns flank the recess of the front room on the ground floor, and fluted Doric pilasters are found in the passage hall. The dog leg stairs have carved cut strings, turned balusters, and column newels, but the usual closed string is present from the first-floor landing.
