Description
54-54A York Street is an end of terrace house with a shop, built around 1810-1820 as part of the Portman Estate development. The building is constructed of stock brick with a stuccoed ground floor and has a concealed slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and features two windows wide, along with a two-window return to Upper Montagu Street. The doorway on the right has been altered, and there is an inserted display window. The upper floors have recessed glazing bar sashes set under flat gauged arches. The shop front on the return has been altered in the 19th century. The stucco work is finished with a plat band at the first-floor level, and there is a crowning stucco cornice and blocking course. Additionally, there are cast iron area railings with urn finials along York Street.
