Description

TQ 2881 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER PORTMAN SQUARE, Wl 55/40 (north side) 10.9.54 No. 19 (courtauld Institute, eastern part) G.V. II Terraced town house. c.1774 (with mid C.19 alterations), Portman Estate development. Brown brick; slate roof. 4 storeys,basement and dormered mansard. 3 windows wide. Semicircular arched doorway to left in stucco surround with modelled relief in spandrels and fluted pilasters; late C.19 panelled and glazed door and fanlight. Recessed sashes under flat gauged arches, the 1st floor windows in stucco architraves with dentil cornices. Bracketed and dentilled stucco cornice over 2nd floor and stucco plat band to 1st floor. Cornice-coping to parapet. 1st floor windows have cast iron bowed balconettes. C.19 cast iron area railings. Interior also altered mid to later C.19 and C.20 but retaining some original mahogany doors.
