Description
No. 1 New Quebec Street is a terraced house built around 1790-1800 as part of the Portman Estate development, which followed the construction of Great Cumberland Place and Seymour Street. The building is made of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and features a concealed slate roof. It stands four storeys high with a basement and is three windows wide.
The central entrance has a semicircular arched doorway with panelled jambs, a panelled door, and a radial patterned fanlight above. To the right, there is a small pilaster-framed shop window with an entablature, and to the left, a plain recessed sash window. The upper floors have recessed sash windows that are set under flat gauged red brick arches. The stuccowork on the ground floor extends up to the first-floor sill band. The building is topped with a parapet that has coping, and it is enclosed by cast iron area railings with spearhead finials.
