Description

This is a terraced town house dating from around 1790, built as part of the Portman Estate development associated with Baker Street. The exterior is of stock brick with a stuccoed ground floor, and it has a concealed slate roof. The house is four storeys high, with a basement, and is three windows wide. A broad, elliptical arched doorway is positioned on the left-hand side, with a panelled door set within panelled jambs, flanked by side lights and a fluted head above, and featuring a fanlight. The windows are mostly recessed sash windows, except on the first floor where French casements are present, all set within flat, gauged red brick arches. Stuccowork finishes the exterior with a string course at first-floor level. A parapet with stone coping tops the building. Bowed wrought iron balconettes are attached to the first floor, and cast iron area railings are present, topped with urn finials. Inside, the house retains a D-plan staircase with a delicate balustrade.
