Description
This is a terrace of houses numbered 38 to 57, located on the south side of Leinster Square, London. The terrace was built in 1857 by George Wyatt as part of the planned layout for Leinster Square. The buildings are constructed of stucco, with a roof that is not visible. They rise to four storeys, with an attic and basement level. Each house has two windows across its front. The design is balanced, with the end pairs of houses and a central group projecting slightly and featuring rusticated quoins. The windows are square-headed, except for those on the first floor, where the upper corners are rounded, and those in the attic, which have a segmental head. Cornices are present above the first and second-floor windows, with pediments above the first-floor windows of the projecting houses. A continuous cast iron bombé balcony runs along the first floor. A dentil cornice sits above the third floor, with a garland frieze following its line. A smaller cornice defines the attic. The rear elevation is also notable, featuring entrances within two-storey porches.
