Description

Nos. 27 and 28, Princes Square are a pair of terraced houses dating from the 1850s, part of a planned scheme for the entire square. The houses are constructed of stucco, with a visible basement and four storeys plus an attic. The corner site features rusticated quoins and channelling to the ground floor. The west facade has projecting Ionic porches and a continuous bombé balcony to the first floor. The ground and third floor windows are square-headed, while first floor windows have rounded upper corners and are flanked by Corinthian half columns. Second floor windows are segmental headed, all with sash glazing and plate glass. A rich acanthus frieze sits above the third-floor cornice, and arched attic windows are topped by a subsidiary cornice. Cast iron area railings are present. A return elevation is visible to the left.
