Description
The Church of St Matthew is a Grade II* listed building located on Petersburgh Place in the City of Westminster. Built in 1880 by architect J. Johnson, it is designed in the Geometrical Gothic style. The church features a four-bay nave and a short chancel, along with a south-west tower that has a recessed spire and corner pinnacles. The central entrance leads to a narthex with a gallery above. Inside, the chancel arch is flanked by subsidiary arches, and there are two-light clerestory windows with applied shafts in between, as well as lancet windows in the aisles. The interior also includes Victorian stained glass, notably the south-east window which is likely by Morris and Co.
