Description
10 and 12 Palace Court are a pair of houses built in 1890 by Maclaren. They are constructed of red brick with Portland stone dressings and feature a green pitched slate roof at the eaves. The buildings rise four storeys, with an attic and basement, and present an asymmetrical composition in the Arts and Crafts style across five main bays.
The entrances are located in the third bay, slightly off-centre to the right, and are flanked by half columns. To the right, there is a large polygonal bay window adorned with applied shafts, a heavy foliated frieze, a cornice, and a lead roof. On the left, a canted bay extends from the ground to the third floor, culminating in a Portland stone parapet. The first floor features a rich foliated band, with square-headed windows except for the centre window, which is round-headed. The second-floor windows are segmental-headed, while the third-floor windows are square-headed, with flush frames on the second and third floors. The first-floor central windows have leaded lights, and there are sashes with glazing bars throughout.
A balcony is present on the first floor, serving the left and centre bays. Above the second floor, there is a Portland stone band, and a rich cornice crowns the third floor. Decorative lead guttering runs along the eaves, and there are dormers and decorative slab chimneys. The balcony, area railings, and third-floor ironwork are also decorative. The interior has not been inspected.
