Description

This is a police public call post located on the pavement to the west of the junction between Piccadilly and Regent Street, dating from around 1935 or earlier. It is made of cast iron and was produced by the Carron Foundry. The post has a tall, narrow rectangular shape with set backs at the base, mounted corners, and an arched head topped with a small flat-topped cupola that features corner bars. It originally had an opaque glass plate, which is now broken, providing instructions for use to a small door in the upper part. The words "Police" and "Police Public Call Post" are displayed in white against a blue background on each side, with an embossed crown above the front. This post is a rare survival.
