Description
No. 229 Strand is a terraced house with a shop, dating from the early 17th century and altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is a rare example of a jettied timber frame structure, with a plastered exterior and a slate roof. The building has four storeys and is three windows wide. The ground floor features an early to mid-19th century shop front, which includes a door on the left and a glazing bar display window that is set back under the overhang of the first floor. The upper floors have flush framed sash windows, with the second floor extending out as a further jetty. The building is topped with a parapet that has coping.
