Description
No. 3 Fleet Street is a house and shop, now used as a shop and offices. It dates from the mid to late 18th century, with alterations made in the mid 19th century. The shop was built around 1912 for S Weingott and Son. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick, featuring stucco quoining and dressings, and has a plain tile mansard roof with brick end stacks. It has a double-depth plan and stands four storeys high with a one-window range.
The shop front, dating to around 1912, includes doors on either side of a central square bay window, which is flanked by canted windows made of plate glass with leaded lights at the top. The first floor features a 20th-century plate-glass window, flanked by late 18th-century panelled shutters. The second and third floors have three-light windows set within stuccoed square-headed architraves that include moulded cornices. A moulded cornice also adorns the balustraded parapet.
Inside, the shop retains an exceptionally well-preserved interior from around 1912, featuring bolection panelling on cabinets, banks of drawers, and the counter, along with a stained glass panel in the rear window.
