Description
The Middle Temple Gatehouse, built in 1684 by Roger North, is a Grade I listed building located on Middle Temple Lane. This structure features four storeys and is constructed of red brick and Portland stone. The ground storey facing Fleet Street is rusticated and includes two round-arched footways and a flat-headed carriageway with a carved keystone. Above this, four Ionic pilasters extend through the three upper storeys, supporting an entablature and a pediment that contains a circular window in the tympanum. The upper windows are adorned with stone architraves, and there are two iron-railed balconies on the first floor. The rear elevation is plain.
