Description
Glyn Mills is a bank building, formerly known as Child's bank, constructed around 1879 by architect J. Gibson. It features a Portland stone front and stands three storeys high, plus a basement, with five windows across its facade. The ground storey is characterized by vermiculated rustication, with the end bays set forward. It has round-arched openings that are flanked by inset Doric columns. A balustrade runs along the first floor, which includes balconies supported by brackets at either end. The upper two floors are adorned with an order of engaged Corinthian columns in antis, and their channelled faces. The first-floor windows are framed by Ionic columns that support pediments, while the second-floor windows are pilastered and feature ornamental heads. The building is topped with a crowning entablature that has an enriched frieze and a modillion cornice, and there is a balustrade in the area.
