Description
226 The Strand, located in the City of Westminster, is a house that has been converted into a shop with offices above. It was built around 1820 and features a narrow five-storey front made of stock brick, with stone cills and parapet coping. The building has 6/6 sash windows on the fourth, third, and upper part of the second floors, while the first floor has large plate glass openings. The ground floor has a modern shop front. An original staircase with columnar newel posts remains intact from the second floor upwards. This building is a rare example of a pre-Victorian structure on the Strand, still situated on a narrow burgage plot. In 1840, it was home to the Temple Bar Tea Warehouse.
