Description
Devereux Chambers is a building from around 1675, part of New Court in the Temple, likely designed by Barbon. It has been altered in the 18th and early 19th centuries. The building is faced with stucco and has a slate roof, standing four storeys high with a basement. It features five windows facing Devereux Court and a four-window return to New Court. The ground floor is rusticated and includes a central doorway with an architrave and a cornice supported by console brackets. The windows have recessed glazing bar sashes set in architrave surrounds, with pediments above on the first floor. There is a plat band over the ground floor and a sill band with apron panels on the first floor. A moulded cornice is present over the second floor, along with a moulded band at the parapet topped with coping. The return to New Court has similar architectural details. Additionally, the ground floor extends to the right as a screen wall with a semicircular arched opening. The gateway to New Court and The Temple is located within the City of London.
