Description
No. 20 The Strand is a terrace house built in the early 19th century. It features a solid rendered front with a horizontally-channelled ground storey and a slate roof. There are rendered chimneys on each side wall. The building stands three storeys high with a semi-basement and has a three-window range.
The doorway replaces the middle ground-storey window and is accessed by six steps. It has a Greek Doric porch with a triangular pediment and a six-panelled door with matching reveals and a knocker, where the bottom panels are flush. The ground-storey windows are 8-paned sashes, while the second-storey windows consist of 4-paned French windows with margin-panes and a continuous patterned iron balcony. The third-storey windows have 2-paned sashes in the center and 2-light wood casements on the sides, with each light containing 2 panes.
The semi-basement window on the left is blocked, and the one on the right has been converted into a loading entrance with plank doors. The building features a prominent boxed eaves cornice. The channelling and eaves cornice continue across No. 19, although there is a distinct break in the cornice. The balcony design is also very similar to that of No. 19. The interior has not been inspected.
