Description
13 The Strand is a building dating from around 1830 to 1840. It is similar to the adjacent No 12 on the Strand front, featuring an identical porch and parapets leading to the steps. The tripartite ground floor window is positioned to the east and has no glazing bars. There are bands between the storeys. The north-facing Esplanade front is also similar but includes a three-light bay window on the ground floor to the east, with sash windows that also lack glazing bars. This front features Doric pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice, while the glazing bars are only intact in the basement. The first-floor cast iron balcony is lower than that of No 12 and is designed in a Chinoiserie-Gothic style. Nos 1 to 7 and Nos 9 to 20 on the Strand form a group with this building.
