Description
Winchester House, also known as the Putney Constitutional Club, is an 18th century building located on Lower Richmond Road. It is three storeys high and five windows wide, featuring a three-window splayed projection on the west side. The building is constructed of brown brick, with a slightly projecting central section that has an open pediment, a circular panel, and a keystone. There is a band at the first floor level, and the recessed windows have gauged flat arches, with a lunette window on the second floor. The first floor showcases a Palladian window flanked by brick pilasters that have stone moulded caps and bases, along with a triple keystone. The entrance features a wooden doorcase supported by Doric columns, a pulvinated frieze, and an architrave adorned with scrolls and a sculptured head. Inside, there is a panelled hall and two staircases with turned balusters that have decorative enrichments and carved ends, along with other notable interior features. Additionally, there is a two-storey annex with three windows, which has a cove cornice and a tiled roof.
