Description

This is a group of five cast iron bollards located at the junction of Lower Richmond Road and Putney Embankment. The bollards consist of one group of three arranged from north-west to south-east across the pavement, and a pair aligned approximately west to east along the pavement edge. Each bollard features a flared base, a slim band with chevron patterning, and a knob finial.

These bollards were likely installed when Putney Embankment was developed into its current form in the 1890s. A photograph from around 1910 shows all five bollards in their original location, although they were initially arranged in a single row. Two of the bollards have since been moved to accommodate the widening of the Embankment roadway.

Three of the bollards, which remain in their original position, were listed at Grade II on 7th April 1983. The current listing now includes all five bollards.

The group is recognized for its streetscape value as a well-preserved set of late 19th-century cast iron bollards, which have been at this location since at least around 1910 and contribute significantly to the historic character of Putney's riverfront.
