Description
The Privy is an 18th-century building, likely constructed in the mid-18th century for the second Duke of Richmond. It is built of red brick in Flemish bond with rubbed brick dressings and features a replacement leaded roof from around 1999. The structure has a hexagonal plan and includes a plinth, stepped dentilled eaves, and a roof finial. The entrance is located on the south side and consists of two stone steps leading to a double door with six flush panels beneath a flat gauged brick arch, flanked by Diocletian windows. At the rear, there are low-level traces of three former bucket holes. Inside, there are remains of panelled walls and a decorative mid-rail, along with a door architrave that features Vitruvian scroll decoration and a finely-carved egg-and-tongue motif.
