Description

St John's Schools is a building dating from 1760, constructed of yellow stock brick. It features a parapet, a brick band above the ground and second floors, and a bracketed cornice above the first floor. The structure is three storeys high with a basement and has four windows. The central entrance bay is adorned with coupled Doric doorcases and twin niches on the first floor, which contain contemporary figures of a boy and a girl, topped with a pediment and an elliptical window in the tympanum. The windows are recessed, with segmental heads on the ground floor and semi-circular heads on the first floor.

There is an early 19th-century southern extension that is two storeys high and has five windows, with a cornice that aligns with that of the main building. This extension features a blocking course and three semi-circular windows on the first floor, which have archivolts and impost bands. The entrances are located in the end bays and are decorated with consoles and swags above. The ground floor includes a single segmental-headed three-light window in the centre.
