Description
Bury Lodge is a late 18th-century building located on Bury Road. It is two storeys tall with an attic and is constructed of yellow stock brick. The building features a central pediment and a dentil cornice with moulded wooden boxing that extends over the pediment. The roof is hipped and covered with old tiles.
The front of the building is symmetrical, with two wide dormer windows. On the first floor, there are two large three-light windows flanking a tall central glazed door, which has narrow side glazing and opens onto a flat portico below. The ground floor also has two similar windows and a central double door with six panels, narrow sidelights, and a radiating fanlight, all set within segmental arched openings that have panelled reveals. The doorway is sheltered by a wide Greek Doric portico, which includes columns, pilasters, and an entablature.
On either side of the main building are symmetrical early 19th-century extensions, each two storeys high and made of similar brick, with stone coping and old tile roofs. Each extension consists of one bay.
