Description
No 230 on Cable Street is an 18th-century building constructed of stock brick, featuring a parapet. The roof is not visible. It stands three storeys tall and has two sash windows. The top floor windows have glazing bars, while the first-floor windows have only vertical glazing bars. All windows have segmental heads and concealed frames. The entrance door is topped with a fanlight. The ground floor windows are fitted with shutters and have flat gauged red brick arches above them. An entablature with a cornice, frieze, architrave, and slender side pilasters runs across the entire ground floor, which may indicate a former shop front.
This building is part of a cohesive group that includes The Dolphin Public House at Nos 192 to 224, The Britannia Public House, and the Town Hall with gate piers, all located on the south side of Cable Street.
