Description
St George's Gardens Garden Wall is an 18th-century structure located on the east side of Cannon Street Road. The wall stands 8 feet high and is constructed of red brick with buttresses and white stone coping. In the northeastern section, there is a 19th-century grey marble drinking fountain with a bowl, which also features a stone plaque detailing the pre-1876 course of the wall. The wall continues into the churchyard of St George in the East and the Rectory garden.
The lantern tower of St George in the East is a notable landmark in this area of Stepney. The church, along with its rectory, walls, gates, railings, and memorial, forms a cohesive group surrounding St George's Gardens, which was the church's former churchyard.
