Description
No. 44 Cannon Street Road is a commercial building with living accommodation above, dating from around 1810. It is constructed of brick, which is now painted, and features a roof that is concealed by a parapet. The building stands three storeys tall and has two windows. The late 19th-century sash windows do not have glazing bars and are located in their original openings. The first-floor windows are round-headed and set in recesses, separated by pilasters with moulded impost blocks. The parapet has a moulded modillion cornice and a projecting tablet that displays the name "THOMAS."
The ground floor retains much of its original shopfront, which includes a fascia, pilasters, a dado rail, and a door with four flush panels. Inside, the entrance hall features panelling and a round-headed arch supported by moulded console brackets. The stairwell has a stick staircase with column newels and additional panelling. Several rooms have panelling up to dado level, round-headed windows with splayed cases and shutters that include underpanels, and doorcases with reeded architraves adorned with lion's head paterae. There are also four fielded panelled doors.
