Description
The structure consists of a pier, gates, and a railed wall located on the north side of the Church of St George in the East, dating from the 18th century. The pier is made of panelled stone, while the iron gates feature an overthrow with spearhead and poppy seed finials. The railed stone wall has railings that are of a similar design to the gates, although these are later replacements.
The lantern tower of St George in the East is a notable landmark in this area of Stepney. The church, along with its associated rectory, walls, gates, railing, and memorial, forms a cohesive group around St George's Gardens, which was formerly the churchyard.
