Description

Rochelle Street Primary School, built in 1899, is located in the Boundary Estate. It is constructed of yellow stock brick with red brick dressings and features a stone cornice topped by a panelled blocking course, which has been partly rebuilt. The building is two storeys high and has nine windows. A string course runs above the ground floor's central five bays, which are separated by brick pilasters that are partly fluted and set in shallow brick arches. The pilasters are paired at the ends, and the two bays on the sides have scrolled brick aprons beneath the first-floor windows. All ground floor windows are round-arched and have stone keystones. The facade facing Montclare Street includes a corner turret that rises to four storeys and is topped with a slate roof.

The Boundary Estate is recognized as an early London County Council estate known for its advanced design for the time. It features a variety of architectural details, with streets radiating from a central raised park in Arnold Circus. The entire estate is considered a cohesive group, which includes several streets such as Arnold Circus, Boundary Street, Calvert Avenue, Camlet Street, Club Row, Hocker Street, Ligonier Street, Montclare Street, Naverre Street, Old Nichol Street, Palissy Street, Rochelle Street, Swanfield Street, and Virginia Street.
