Description
Culham House is a building constructed in 1899, located between Hurley and Sonning Houses on Rochelle Street in the Boundary Estate. It features yellow stock brick with red brick dressings and a glazed brick ground floor. The building has a slate mansard roof and consists of five storey side and centre bays under coped Flemish gables, with the rest of the structure being four storeys high with dormers. There are eight sash windows with glazing bars, most of which have segmental arches. The windows under the gables are flanked by pilasters on the top two storeys. At the rear, Tuscan pillars support a bay above the doors.
The Boundary Estate is notable as an early London County Council estate, showcasing advanced design for its time. It includes a variety of architectural details and features streets that radiate from a central raised park in Arnold Circus. The entire estate is recognized as a group, encompassing several streets including Arnold Circus, Boundary Street, Calvert Avenue, Camlet Street, Club Row, Hocker Street, Ligonier Street, Montclare Street, Naverre Street, Old Nichol Street, Palissy Street, Rochelle Street, Swanfield Street, and Virginia Street.
