Description

Sunbury House is a building from 1899 located on Swanfield Street in the Boundary Estate. The main facade faces an inner courtyard, while the end facades are oriented towards Swanfield Street and Hocker Street. It is constructed of red brick with a slate roof. The building features recessed bays of four storeys and dormers, with five storeys under gables. The central block consists of three bays topped with a Flemish style gable that has elaborate stone coping and a roundel. The side windows from the first to third floors are set in oriel bays, with a curved stone cornice above the centre window.

To either side of the central block, there is a recessed portion of three bays, followed by an advanced section of six bays with square turrets at each end. The centre four windows have tiled surrounds above the ground floor, with brick pilasters in between. The stone door surrounds add to the architectural detail. A further recessed single bay has one small window on each side. The ends of the building are advanced under gables, featuring two round arched windows on the ground floor that lead to a chamfered bay with three windows from the first to third floors.

The Boundary Estate is an early London County Council estate known for its advanced design for the time. It showcases a variety of architectural details, with streets radiating from a central raised park in Arnold Circus. The entire estate is recognized as a group, including several surrounding streets.
