Description

Benson House is a building from 1899 located on Ligonier Street in the Boundary Estate. It is constructed of red brick with a tiled roof and features a bracketed eaves cornice. The building stands four storeys tall with dormers and five storeys under gables, with the center two bays under a hipped roof. It has a total of eighteen windows, which are sash types with one, two, and three lights, mostly topped with segmental arches. The windows on the first to third floors, including those in the gables and center two bays, are set in shallow brick arches, while the fourth-floor windows have individual brick arches. Each side has a flanking window rank that ends in a flat cornice, which forms a wheeler to the gable ends, and there is a blind window above. All dormers are designed with hipped roofs.

The Boundary Estate is recognized as an early London County Council estate known for its advanced design for the time. It showcases a variety of architectural details and features streets that radiate from a central raised park in Arnold Circus. The estate as a whole is significant and includes several surrounding streets.
