Description

Sandford House is a building from 1899 located in the Boundary Estate, Arnold Circus, E2. It is constructed of red brick with a glazed ground floor and features a stuccoed string course above. The slate roof has a bracketed eaves cornice. The building stands four storeys tall, with an additional storey under the gable. It has three window bays above the ground floor, each set in banded red and orange brickwork. The gable also displays similar banding, separated from the third floor by a red brick cornice, frieze, and entablature. The windows have red brick arches, except for those in the gable end, which have a round orange brick tympanum, while the side windows feature flat arches. The ground floor windows are adorned with stuccoed mullions and surrounds, and there is a central doorway topped with a bracketed pediment. The rear corner of the building is canted.

The Boundary Estate is recognized as an early London County Council estate, notable for its advanced design for the time. It includes a variety of architectural details, and its streets radiate from a central raised park in Arnold Circus. The entire estate is considered a cohesive group, encompassing several streets in the area.
