Description
Hedsor House, dating from 1899, is constructed of red brick with detailing in brown brick and yellow brick, arranged in geometric patterns. The building has a tiled roof with wide eaves and dormers, rising four storeys and featuring thirty-three windows, including seven advanced single bays topped with hipped roofs and chimneys. Windows are primarily sash windows with glazing bars, although some are casements. The first, second, and third floors have windows within recessed brick arches, while the dormers are separated by rendered panels. Ground and third-floor windows are arched segmentally. The inner facade, overlooking a courtyard, includes angular and round towers. The upper storey is rendered with gables, the central gable featuring scalloped darker rendering and stuccoed brackets below. Some doors have stucco dressings while others have tiled surrounds.
Hedsor House is part of the Boundary Estate, an early London County Council development notable for its advanced design. The estate’s streets radiate from a central raised park in Arnold Circus, and the entire area forms a unified group of buildings.
