Description

Taplow House is a building constructed in 1899, located on the north side of Palissy Street in the Boundary Estate. It is made of red brick with brown tiled bands and tiled corners that reach shoulder height. The windows on the third floor have pink and grey banded tiled surrounds, and the building features a mansard slate roof. It has four storeys and dormers, with sash windows that include glazing bars throughout. The end and center windows on the ground floor have round arches, while the rest have segmental arches. The building consists of eighteen bays, with the ends comprising two bays each and the center four bays advanced under stone coped gables, which are adorned with elaborate kneelers and a pedimented feature as a finial. The windows from the first to the third floor are oriels, featuring a stuccoed base and a stucco cornice above. The recessed five bay portions have a heavy brick eaves modillion cornice with pilasters that extend down to the second floor sill height. There are round brick arches above the windows, and a blue brick ledge below the recessed third floor windows.
