Description
Walton House dates from 1899 and is located within the Boundary Estate. This estate is an early London County Council development, notable for its innovative design and layout, with streets radiating from a central park at Arnold Circus. The entire estate is considered to have group value.
Walton House is constructed of red brick with a plinth and banded yellow brick above. It has a slate mansard roof with a curved profile. The building is arranged over four storeys and has dormers, with a further five storeys under the gables, presenting a facade of twenty-three windows in total. The windows are mostly sash windows with glazing bars and segmental arches, with some smaller, rectangular interval windows, some of which are blank. The dormers exhibit an oriental influence, featuring curved hipped roofs with finials. A brick cornice runs immediately below the eaves. The Flemish-style gables have short side pilasters and pedimented ridges. A wrought iron motif is featured above the top windows on the two-bay facade facing Old Nichol Street.
