Description

Cookham House is a building from 1899 located on Montclare Street in the Boundary Estate. It is constructed of red brick with blue brick banding in the gables and features a tiled roof. The building stands four storeys tall with a double tier of dormers and six storeys under the gables, containing a total of fourteen windows. The central gable is positioned above two four-light mullioned windows that have stucco dressings on the ground floor, with a string course above. The first to third floor windows feature square oriels with stuccoed bases, while above them are arched windows with stuccoed tympana. There is a blank window on the fifth floor. The windows consist of casements and sashes with glazing bars. The end gables have a wide brick cornice above the third floor, and the inner three bays display brick arches from the first to third floors. The eaves soffit is wide and bracketed. The facade facing Old Nichol Street also has four storeys with a double tier of dormers above and is four windows wide.

The Boundary Estate is recognized as an early London County Council estate, notable for its advanced design for the time. It features a variety of architectural details and its streets radiate from a central raised park in Arnold Circus, forming a cohesive group with other streets in the area.
