Description
Nos. 24 to 32 New Road are a group of five terraced houses built in the early 19th century, with numbers 24 and 26 featuring later shops. They are constructed of yellow stock brick, with stuccoed ground floors except for number 28. The buildings are three storeys tall with basements and have two windows each. Numbers 22 and 24 have recessed square-headed entrances with overlights and panelled doors, while number 22 has a ground floor sash window converted into a shop window. The upper floors feature gauged brick flat arches above recessed sashes, with number 22 having late 20th-century glazing. The buildings have parapets, and the interiors are believed to retain some original features.
The attached cast iron railings with urn finials enclose the areas in front of the houses. Numbers 28 to 32 also have recessed square-headed entrances with overlights and part glazed panelled doors. Number 30 includes an architraved surround with panelled jambs, and number 32 has an original patterned overlight. Number 28's ground floor sash has been converted into a shop window, while numbers 20 and 32 feature segmental arched sashes set in shallow segmental arched recesses. The first floor has plain stucco bands, and the upper floors again have gauged red brick flat arches above recessed sashes. The buildings also have parapets, and the interiors are believed to retain some original features.
