Description
4 and 6 St Mary's Road are two houses built around 1845. They are made of multi-coloured stock brick, accented with red brick and stucco dressings, and feature pitched slate roofs with deep eaves that are bracketed at the outer sections. The central part of the buildings is two storeys high with two bays and includes a loggia, while the higher, projecting outer sections also have two storeys and a basement, each with two bays. The loggia is supported by patterned cast-iron columns and has a bracketed slate canopy. To the right of No. 4, there is a one-storey canted entrance link that has a loggia similar to the central section, with blank niches on either side of the door. No. 6 has a one-storey set-back entrance extension to its left. The windows are sash style; those in the central section have slightly cambered gauged-brick arches, while the outer sections feature stucco architraves, cornices, and bracketed sills on the ground floor, with flat, gauged red brick arches on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected. Nos. 2-6 St Mary's Road and Nos. 152 to 158 Queen's Road form a group.
