Description
21 and 23 St Peter Street is a pair of houses built around 1850, featuring a central carriageway, with the left-hand house divided into flats. The buildings are constructed with mass wall construction, stuccoed and blocked out, and the ground floor has channeled rustication. They have a slate roof that is gabled at the ends, with end stacks that are not visible. The outer front doors lead to staircases, and the central carriageway provides access to a rear court.
The exterior is three storeys high with a symmetrical five-bay front. There is a platband at the first-floor level, and pilasters on the left and right sides of the first and second floors, which have sunk panels and anthemion decoration. An eaves band runs along the top. The round-headed outer doorways include a 19th-century six-panel door with a plain fanlight on the left-hand house, while the right-hand door (No. 21) has been replaced. The central carriageway features segmental-headed two-leaf plank doors.
The ground-floor windows are tripartite sashes, with No. 21 having a 12-pane sash in the centre flanked by outer 4-pane sashes, while No. 23 is missing glazing bars. The first-floor windows are 16-pane sashes, with the centre window having horns. The second-floor windows are similar, featuring a blind recess in the centre, and one window is missing some glazing bars.
The interior has not been inspected but may contain features of interest.
