Description

No. 24 St Peter Street is a house, including area railings, believed to have been built in 1844 according to information from the owner. It features smooth-plastered mass wall construction and is said to have a cob party wall with No. 26. The roof and stacks are not visible from the street. The house is 2 rooms wide with a doorway to the left and a narrow area in front providing access to the basement.

The exterior consists of 3 storeys and a basement, with an asymmetrical but regular 2-bay front. There are pilasters on the left and right, and the ground floor showcases channelled rustication. The eaves cornice, supported by brackets, breaks forward over the pilasters, while a moulded cornice is present at the first-floor level. A projecting porch to the left features a parapet with sunk panels and a cornice that also breaks forward over the pilasters. The entrance has a 4-panel door with sunk panels and planted mouldings, topped by a fanlight with spoke glazing bars. The porch includes a round-headed window on the right return, which has margin panes and coloured and etched glass. The segmental-headed basement windows are fitted with 12-pane sashes. The ground-floor window is a tripartite sash with a proud architrave and sunk panels below the cill, consisting of a 12-pane central sash flanked by 4-pane sashes. On the first floor, there are two 12-pane sashes with moulded architraves, while the second floor has two 3 over 6-pane sashes.

The subsidiary features include cast-iron area railings with round-on-plan standards and leafy finials. The interior has not been inspected but is reputed to be very intact, featuring plaster cornices and other details.
