Description
Butler's Grinders and Operators Warehouse is a mid-19th century warehouse and mill located on Shad Thames in Southwark. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond and features a parapeted roof, with a slate covering at the rear. It stands five storeys tall and has a six-window range, with two and four hoist bays and a first-floor entrance in the fifth range. The wall plates are visible on all floors, and most openings are segmental-arched.
To the north, there is a two-storey annexe with a one-window range that steps down to a single-storey shed with a two-window range, which ends in a gap leading to the yard. The south return has a three-window range, with the second and third floors of the central range blocked. The north-facing elevation towards the yard features a gable with a segmental-arched hoist bay on its east face, while the north elevation also includes a hoist bay. The four-storey range projects the furthest north, with its west return having a two-window range and a hoist bay. There is also a hoist bay on the gabled four-storey wing at the rear of the site. A bridge connecting the top floor with No. 12 is present but is not of special interest.
The interior has not been inspected. This warehouse forms a group with other listed structures in the Shad Thames area.
