Description
West Lodge at Nunhead Cemetery is an entrance lodge built around 1840 by James Bunning. It is constructed of yellow brick and features a low-pitched, hipped slate roof with a modillion eaves cornice. The lodge is located to the right of the entrance gates and is designed in a Neo-classical style, with its front facing the road. The building is one storey high with a basement and consists of three bays. It has paired brick pilasters at the corners that support a stone prostyle porch, which is adorned with square columns, a frieze that wraps around the building, a dentil cornice, and a pediment topped with an acroterion. The lodge has sash windows with glazing bars and a stone sill band, along with a stone coped plinth. A central chimney stack features paired angle pilasters, a brick cornice, and a stone pediment. The interior has not been inspected. This lodge was built as a pair with the East Lodge, which is located to the left of the gates.
