Description
The monument to Maria Proom, located in Nunhead Cemetery, was created around 1872 to commemorate her death that same year. It is made of pink and grey granite and Carrara marble. The structure features a tall column on a square plinth, topped with a marble figure of a praying woman. Its form and size are unusual and are inspired by Continental Catholic statues of the Virgin Mary.
