Description

The monument to members of the public killed by a Zeppelin is located in Camberwell Old Cemetery and dates from around 1920. It is a stone obelisk approximately 3 meters high, set on two steps. One side of the monument features the cross of Lorraine and is topped with an iron cross. The inscription, which is worn, lists the names of 21 civilians who lost their lives due to bombing. Surrounding the inscription are large gold mosaic diamonds, and the shaft of the obelisk is roughly chiselled, with a smooth inscription stele emerging from it, encircled by an oak and bay leaf garland.
