Description
The war memorial, built around 1919, is located to the west of the junction with Briardale Road on Cowpen Road in Blyth. It is made of limestone and features inlaid marble tablets. The memorial has a stepped chamfered plinth adorned with carved panels depicting an aircraft attacking a Zeppelin and a submarine attacking a ship. Above this, a square shaft holds inlaid marble tablets listing the names of those who died in the wars, including the Second World War (1939-45) on the rear side. The memorial is topped with a moulded cap that supports a life-size figure of a soldier in uniform.
