Description
A pair of houses dating from the early to mid-19th century, located on Honor Oak Rise in Southwark. The houses are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with the ground floor rendered in stucco and decorative dressings. They are three storeys high and each has two windows, although number 32 features a two-storey entrance porch on its left side. The facades of the two houses are largely identical. All window openings are flat-arched, except where noted. The ground floors each have French doors set within a small aedicule (a decorative architectural feature) topped by brackets carved with acanthus leaves. The first-floor windows have projecting sills and cornices also supported by acanthus brackets. The ground floor of number 32 has banded, chamfered rustication topped with a storey band. Corner quoins are present at the first and second floors of both houses, and a continuous parapet tops the elevation. Number 32 features a round-arched entrance in a single-storey porch of an original design. The entrance to number 30 was originally likely located within a matching bay, but was rebuilt and raised to three storeys in the late 20th century and is now set back to the west. The interior has not been inspected. The properties form a group with numbers 34 to 40 (even).
