Description
Cambridge House is a terrace of 13 houses built in the early 19th century. The houses are constructed of yellow brick with a stucco cornice and blocking course. They have slate mansard roofs with dormers to numbers 131-139 and 151-155; lower-pitched slate or tile roofs to numbers 141-149, with a dormer on number 145. The houses are three storeys high, with an attic and basement, and each has three bays.
The ground-floor openings have a round head set within a round-arched recess, standing on a stucco basement plinth. The original front doors at numbers 131-139, 143-149 and 155 feature attached Tuscan columns, mutule cornice heads, and decorative fanlights. A similar door exists at number 141, but with a plain fanlight. The door at number 151 has lost all detail, and the door at number 153 has lost its columns. The doors at numbers 133 and 135 have been replaced by windows. Some of the front doors have been renewed. The ground floor has sash windows with glazing bars, though these are missing from number 147. Flat, gauged-brick arches feature above the upper windows, with sill bands to the first floor. The windows are generally sashes with glazing bars, except for the first-floor windows at numbers 151 and 153, which are casements. The second-floor windows at number 153, and all windows at number 155, are missing, and number 155 is presently boarded up. The interior was not inspected. Number 155 was separately listed on 27 September 1972.
